Introduction

In FOTW there are no distinctive flags shown for the Grenzpolizei and the Volkspolizei dating later than 1973. The variants of the war ensign and war flag —with green stripe at the hoist— are identified as ensigns of the Navy's Coastal Frontier Brigade and the Army Frontier Troops respectively. This leads me to think that the Grenzpolizei came under military control at some point and ceased to be a separate service. Is that correct? Or were there new flags adopted at some time not shown in FOTW?
